Technology Integration Ideas and Tools

These technology tools have been used in previous TPACK learning activities.

  • Classroom Science Blog: A blog can be used for a variety of purposes for enhancing the teaching of science content. Some possible purposes include reflection, discussion, and sharing ideas or experiments (see the learning activities for the 3rd and 4th grade Light and Sound Unit in the "PK-8 Science Education" section for detailed examples of how blogs have been used to enhance reflection in science activities).

Edublogs- A great website tool that is specifically designed for education use in the creation of classroom blogs.

  • Wikispaces: Wikispaces can be used for a variety of purposes for enhancing the teaching of science content. wikispaces

  • WebQuests: WebQuests are tools that can be used to enhance teaching in nearly all content areas within science. WebQuests can be integrated into a variety of teaching methods including whole and small group mini lessons, and the inquiry method of teaching. One tool for creating WebQuests can be found at zunal.com. Zunal is a free creation tool that gives educators a format to follow and provides instructions on how to create WebQuests using their format.

Zunal - A free to use WebQuest creation tool.

  • Student E-mailing: Students can e-mail peers in other classes in either their own school or outside of their school using student created e-mail accounts. One way student e-mailing can enhance science education is through communicating experiment procedures and results. Students in one class can conduct an experiment then e-mail it to students in another class with the intention of that class replicating the results found by the first class. This activity can demonstrate to students the work that scientists do when conducting experiments and research.

E-pals - This tool allows for teachers to set up student e-mailing. It is free to use and set up. See the website for more information on the ways student e-mailing can be used to enhance learning activities.
